Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operational (Ropeway) Technical Head to oversee the technical and operational aspects of our ropeway system. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of the ropeway infrastructure while maintaining strict compliance with safety standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting to: Chairman/Managing Director
1. Operation & Control of Ropeway System
- Supervise and monitor daily ropeway operations (start-up to shut-down).
- Real-time monitoring of haul rope speed, tension, cabin movement, and alignment.
- Coordinate with control room operators to manage normal and emergency stops.
- Ensure operational compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. Grip and Carrier Management
- Inspect detachable and fixed grips for wear, slip testing, and spring calibration.
- Oversee regular cabin cleaning, safety bar testing, and structural condition of carriers.
- Supervise carrier derailment prevention mechanisms and checks.
3. Haul Rope Inspection & Maintenance
- Supervise periodic rope shortening and splicing work.
- Perform and record visual inspection, magnetic rope testing (MRT), and NDT checks.
- Ensure lubrication, tension, and alignment of the rope per the manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Braking Systems Oversight
- Daily testing of the service brake, emergency brake, and anti-collision systems.
- Ensure compliance with emergency stop test protocols.
5. Mechanical & Electrical Equipment Supervision
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of:
o Main drive motor and gearbox
o Hydraulic systems for tensioning
o Sheave assemblies and line towers
o VFD and soft-starters
- Ensure motor windings, bearings, cooling, and lubrication are periodically serviced.
- Monitor transformer, power backup (DG set), and electrical protection systems.
6. Tower Line and Structure Inspections
- Periodic physical inspection of towers, base plates, bolts, and structural integrity.
- Vibration monitoring, alignment check of sheave wheels.
- Monitor rope lift-off clearance during operation.
7. Seasonal and Environmental Readiness
- Prepare the ropeway for seasonal operations
- Ensure wind, rain, or lightning safety protocols are followed with real-time alerts.
8. Evacuation & Emergency Preparedness
- Prepare and conduct mock rescue drills and training for operators and rescuers.
- Ensure readiness of manual evacuation equipment, rescue trolleys, and team gear.
9. Training, Reporting & Compliance
- Conduct training for technical and operational staff (grip handling, rope inspection, SOP).
- Maintain logbooks, downtime reports, maintenance records, and safety checklists.
